The “BNK Busan Bank 2024 Busan World Table Tennis Championships” is the most prestigious international table tennis competition held in BEXCO from February 16 to 25.

In this competition, world-class table tennis players will play a hot match for 16 tickets (8 tickets each for men and women) for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Forty countries will compete in the round of 24 tournaments until the third place in each group after being divided into eight groups of men and women, five countries each.

The draw will be held to allocate groups to compete in the qualifying league for 40 countries participating in the competition announced in November last year.

The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) announced the list of 40 countries each for men and women participating in the event on Nov. 8 last year, which was D-100 days.

The criteria for group allocation and draw are the ITTF team rankings for December 2023.

First of all, countries (associations) ranked 1st to 8th will be automatically placed in the 1st to 8th top seed according to the ranking.

After that, four countries will be grouped into the same position group in the order of ranking, and drawn and zigzagged.

The first eight teams in each group will go straight to the round of 16.

The second and third-place teams in each group will also face off in the first round of the finals, where the opponent will be determined by lottery, and the winning team will fill the remaining eight spots in the round of 16.

At the draw ceremony, more than 100 people, including Busan Mayor Park Hyung-joon, ITTF Chairman Ron Petra Söring, co-chairman of Yoo Seung Min, BNK Busan Bank President Bang Sung-bin, and Busan Table Tennis, will appear in turn to draw the group qualifying group.

Prior to the draw ceremony, Kang Myung-soo, president of the Korea Standards Association, will deliver the “ISO 20121” certificate and certification plaque to the organizing committee.

Accordingly, the BNK Busan Bank 2024 Busan World Table Tennis Championships was recognized as a standard for the world table tennis championships based on sustainability for the first time in the ITTF-hosted competition.

The event will be broadcast live worldwide on YouTube.

Mayor Park said, “We hope that people from all over the world who love table tennis and sports will visit Busan and support their athletes, and we hope that we will make many unforgettable memories while enjoying the taste, affection, and scenery hidden throughout Busan.”
