‘Worst start’ Texas Heaney reversed by striking out 9 batters in a row

Texas Rangers Andrew Heaney (31) struck out 9 consecutive batters, tying the American League (AL) record.

Heaney started the 2023 Major League Baseball game against the Kansas City Royals at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, on the 11th (Korean time).

Heaney, who struck out Matt Duffy on a swing in the 1st inning with 1 out, 2nd and 3rd base in a 0-1 trail, struck out nine batters in a row, including lead batter Salvador Perez in the 4th inning, which turned the score 3-1.안전놀이터

Strikeout 9 batters in a row is an AL tie record.

Previously written by Detroit Tigers reliever Doug Fister on September 28, 2012 against the Kansas City Royals, and second by Detroit Tyler Alexander on August 3, 2020 against the Cincinnati Reds.

It is a new record within the Texas team that Nolan Ryan struck out 7 batters in a row against the California Angels on July 8, 1991.

10 consecutive strikeouts are the most in the major leagues.

This record, first set by Tom Seaver of the New York Mets on April 23, 1970, was tied by Aaron Nola of the Philadelphia Phillies on June 26, 2021, and Corbin Burns of the Milwaukee Brewers on August 12 of the same year.

Heaney, who jumped into the big leagues in 2014, transferred to Texas for two years and 25 million dollars (approximately 33.06 billion won) ahead of this season.

The expected first appearance was like a nightmare. In the last 5 against the Baltimore Orioles, he took 7 hits, including 2 home runs, in 2⅔ innings and collapsed with 7 runs.

According to ESPN, Heaney recalled his debut match at Texas and expressed regret, saying, “I owe it to the players and the fans.”

He paid off his debt with a powerful pitch in just one game.

Heaney blocked the Kansas City batting line with 2 hits, 10 strikeouts, 2 walks and 1 run in 5 innings that day.

Thanks to Heaney’s good pitch, Texas won 11-2, and Heeney also reported his first victory after moving to Texas.
