The Major League Baseball office has ‘posted’ to 30 teams that they can negotiate with Lee Jung-hoo and Ko Woo-seok.
The time for negotiations is until 7 am on January 4 next year.
Major local media outlets, including MLB.com, simultaneously reported the two players’ postings as the main news of the story.
[Lee] will become the owner of one of the coolest nicknames in big league baseball, perhaps in history, no matter which team he signs with: “Grandson of the Wind.” (Do you know why?) That’s because his father, KBO legend Lee Jong-beom, was nicknamed “Son of the Wind.”]
Highly regarded for his contact ability, vision, and defense, Lee is currently in Los Angeles preparing to negotiate, and is expected to receive offers from several deep-pocketed teams, including the New York Yankees, New York Mets, San Francisco, and San Diego.
The size of the contract is also certain to be a multi-year deal of at least four years at an average of $10 million per year, well above Ryu Hyun-jin’s $6 million per year in 2013 and Kim Ha-seong’s $7 million per year three years ago.
As for Ko, several teams in need of bullpen reinforcements, including St. Louis, are reportedly preparing contract offers.
