Made of maple wood and silver… The map of Canada is engraved on the lid

■ Trophy Story – RBC Canada Open

The RBC Canada Open , a PGA tour event, boasts a long history dating back to 1904. Because of this, the memento delivered to the winner has changed several times in the event’s more than 100-year history. In the early days of the competition, a gold medal was given to the winner, and for about 20 years from 1971, a unique trophy made of stone was given. 먹튀검증

The current trophy, made using native Canadian maple wood and silver, first appeared in 1994. Made in the hands of silversmiths in Virginia, USA. The trophy placed on a three-tier pedestal consists of a support, a large bowl-shaped body, and a lid, and weighs 22 pounds (about 10 kg). The names of the winners added every year are put on the pedestal, and the handle is also made of wood. A map of Canada is engraved on the lid of the trophy, embodying the symbolism of the only PGA Tour held in Canada.

However, the winner cannot take the trophy home. The genuine trophy is treasured in the archives of the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame at Glen Abbey Golf Course in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. Instead, the winner is presented with a replica of the exact same model, only reduced in size. Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland), the world’s No. 1 in men’s golf, won the trophy again after winning last year’s tournament, which was held three years after winning in 2019 to avoid the spread of Corona 19.
