Carmelo Anthony, 38, is retiring from the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Anthony announced his retirement on social media this morning (Jan. 23).
“I remember when I had nothing,” Anthony said in a video announcing his retirement.
“I remember when I had nothing but dreams of achieving more,” he said. But basketball was my outlet and my goals were clear. I represented my community, my city, my pride, and the fans who supported me. I’m grateful to all the places and people that made me Carmelo Anthony,” he said in a statement.
“But now the time has come to say goodbye to me. It’s time to say goodbye to the court that made my name, to the game that gave me purpose and pride. It’s a bittersweet, sad goodbye to the NBA, but at the same time, I’m excited about what lies ahead for me.”
Anthony also addressed his legacy, saying, “My son (Kiyan Anthony), it’s in your hands now. I’m going to live on in you forever, because it’s time for you to carry on my legacy,” he said, adding that he looks forward to watching his son grow.
A 10-time career All-Star (six with New York), Anthony led the league in scoring in 2013.
Drafted by the Denver Nuggets with the third overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft, Anthony moved to the New York Knicks in February 2011.안전놀이터
With New York from 2011-17, Anthony appeared in 412 regular-season games, averaging 24.7 points, seven rebounds, and 3.2 assists in 35.9 minutes per game.
He then went on to play for the Oklahoma City Thunder (2017-18), Houston Rockets (2018-19), Portland Trailblazers (2019-21), and Los Angeles Lakers (2021-22).
Meanwhile, Anthony’s son Kiyan attends Christ the King High School in New York City and is a four-star shooting guard in the 2025 draft.
