“I don’t want a rainout.”
The bats of the LG Twins batters were cold against the KT Wiz at KT Wiz Park in Suwon on April 25. Partly because opposing starter Wes Benjamin pitched so well, the LG players couldn’t overcome the aftermath of a rainout that forced them to take four days off.
The LG bats were held to three hits off Benjamin, and although they seemed to come alive in the bottom of the ninth inning with three hits and a run off Kim Jae-yoon, they ultimately lost 1-4. After losing two straight games in the first half, LG lost its first game of the second half (against SSG Landers on the 21st) and had dropped four games before this one.
They weren’t helped by the rain. After suffering two rainouts in the first week of July, KT also had two games of its final three-game series in July (against the Hanwha Eagles) canceled due to rain. After the All-Star break, LG was hit with another rainout after the first game of the second half. Two games on July 22 and 23 were rained out. Only nine games were played on July 25. It was bound to have an impact on the players’ sense of practice.
LG coach Yeom Kyung-yeop also sighed. “I wish it would stop raining,” he said with a bitter smile when he met with reporters on July 26. Reflecting on the previous day’s game (25th), he said, “The batters’ game sense has dropped a lot,” and added, “I don’t like rain cancelations. “I don’t like rain cancelations because it takes away from the game… I wish we could just play the game (as scheduled).
Not wanting any more rain, Yeom was informed of the Korea Meteorological Administration’s announcement that this year’s rainy season was over. “Now we’re going to have a typhoon,” he said with a wry smile. “I hope that from now on, it will be normal and go according to the schedule without rain cancelation and Monday’s game,” Yeom said.메이저놀이터
LG, which has lost four straight games, will look to turn things around with a win on the 26th. Their starter is underhanded pitcher Ko Young-pyo. Ko hasn’t fared well in two appearances against LG this season, going 1-1 with a 13.50 ERA (8 runs in 5⅓ innings). Manager Yoon Kyung-yup said, “I think the hitters will do a good job today. It won’t be easy to run (steal) because Ko Young-pyo has a good defense, but I hope we can do a good job of getting on base first.”
