San Diego Padres outfielder Ha-Sung Kim, 28, had his 15-game hitting streak halted after a questionable call.
Kim came off the bench and went 0-for-1 against the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on April 21. San Diego suffered an 0-4 scoreless loss. The loss ended a short two-game winning streak.
Kim, who started the game off the bench, came to the plate as a pinch-hitter for Alfonso Rivas in the top of the seventh inning with San Diego trailing 1-0. Facing Toronto reliever Tim Mayza, Kim saw a 92.0-mile-per-hour (148.1-kilometre-per-hour) fastball and called it a strike.
The two-pitch 85.2 mph (137.1 km/h) slider went higher than the first pitch and appeared to be out of the strike zone, but the umpire called it a strike.
