No more ‘defensive holes’ for Dyer…Spurs push for Dutch ‘193cm+’ CB

Tottenham Hotspur are on the hunt for a new first-team center back to improve their shaky defense.

European transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano exclusively reported on Thursday that “Tottenham have included Micky van der Vaart (Wolfsburg) in their shortlist of center backs alongside Edmund Topsova (Leverkusen)온라인카지노.”

The 2001-born Dutch defender is a 6-foot-3 defender with a top speed of 35.87 km/h, making him the fastest center back in the Bundesliga in 2022/23.

Topsova, a Burkina Faso defender born in 1999, is also considered one of the best center backs in the Bundesliga.

Both players’ performances for their respective clubs last season have sparked interest from Spurs, who are looking to strengthen their defense.

“Spurs have included Topsova and van der Vaart in their shortlist for a new center back as they believe they are the right defenders for the club,” said Romano, adding that “discussions have already taken place about van der Vaart.”

The Wolfsburger Allgemeine, a local newspaper in Wolfsburg, Germany, also recently hinted at a possible move, saying that interest from Premier League clubs has been growing in the player.

“Van der Vaart has attracted interest from Liverpool and a transfer fee of €30 million would be required to secure his signature,” the publication said on April 21.

Tottenham’s top priority in the summer transfer window ahead of the 2023/24 season is to strengthen their defense. Tottenham’s defense was shaky throughout last season, conceding an uncharacteristic number of goals for a big club.

Spurs conceded a total of 63 goals in 38 Premier League games in 2022/23. This is the most goals conceded in a single season in the league since the Premier League switched to a 38-game format.

The last time Tottenham conceded the most goals in the league in a single season was in 2002/03 (62), and they set a new record for most goals conceded in a single season in just over 30 years by conceding one more goal.

The increase in conceded goals has led to a decline in performance. After finishing fourth in the league in 2021/22 with just 40 goals conceded, Spurs conceded 23 more goals and finished eighth in the league.

The Spurs defense was particularly shaky, with Eric Dier making mistakes on a regular basis, leading fans to want a new first-choice defender in the summer 2023 transfer window.

That’s where Spurs began to make changes, with the arrival of Guglielmo Vicario (Empoli) to replace veteran goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. Now, at center back, Spurs fans have something to look forward to as they consider Van der Vaart, who is regarded as the next first-choice defender for the ‘Orange Army’ Netherlands.
