St. Louis Cardinals’ Tommy Edmon, 28, is looking forward to reuniting with his 1995 classmate Ha Sung Kim.
“He’s a really good player,” Edmon told MK Sports after the Cardinals’ home game against the San Diego Padres on Tuesday (April 30), referring to his former nemesis.
It was the first time the two had faced each other in the series since playing together under the Korean flag in March.
“He’s having an unbelievable year this season,” said Edman, who was seeing Kim for the first time since they parted ways in Japan. Offensively, defensively, mainly, all-around. He’s a lot of fun to watch,” Edman said of Kim, who is having his best year since making his big league debut.
Edman is right, Ha-Sung Kim is having his best season yet. In 128 games through 30 days, he’s batting .276 with a .369 on-base percentage, .438 slugging percentage, 17 home runs, 50 RBIs, and 29 doubles. He has a team-high 6.2 bWAR, making him San Diego’s best player in 2023.
“It was great to have the opportunity to play with him,” said Edman, who called his success “cool, but not surprising.”
Why does he say “not surprised”?
“Because he’s a very talented, hard-working player with a good attitude. I think he has everything to be a great major league player. He’s a very good player who does a lot of good things every day.”
This is the first time the two have met since the WBC, but unfortunately, they did not have the opportunity to meet and greet during the series. Their pre-match training schedules didn’t align.
“I waved at him,” said Edman, who started Game 30 on the bench.온라인카지노
If they were to play on the same team again, that would be less of a disappointment. Could we see them manning center field together again?
“It would be a lot of fun,” Edman said. “Who knows what’s going to happen in the next couple years, and hopefully I’ll still be good enough to get called up,” he said, adding that he’s looking forward to playing with Kim again on the national team.
Even if it’s not the national team, the two could still team up in the major leagues. Edmon is eligible for free agency after 2025 and Kim after 2024. They could be traded before then. The major leagues are a place where you should never say never.
“It would be a really fun opportunity to play with him, whether on the national team or in the major leagues,” Edman said. Who knows,” he said, adding that he hopes to have the opportunity to play with him again, wherever that may be.
