Harold Varner III dominates ‘LIV Golf Washington,’ wins $5.4 million in prize money

Harold Varner III (USA) has won the LIV Golf Washington D.C. ($25 million purse), the seventh LIV Golf event of the 2023 season.

Varner carded five birdies and a bogey in the final three rounds of the tournament at Trump National Golf Club (par 72-7428) in Sterling, Virginia, USA, on Monday (Sept. 29) to post a 4-under 68.

His final total of 12-under-par 204 earned him a one-stroke victory over Brandon Grace (South Africa – 11-under 205).

Varner had never won on the U.S. Professional Golf Association (PGA) Tour and had previously won the Australian PGA Championship, a DP World Tour (formerly European Tour) event.

Last February, he lifted the trophy at the PIF Saudi International, the Asian Tour’s flagship event organized by the Saudi Arabian sovereign wealth fund (PIF). After sinking a 28-meter putt to win the tournament, Varner joined Reeve Golf in August of that year.

Varner took home $4 million in individual prize money. In addition, he teamed up with Taylor Gooch (USA) and Wade Ormsby (AUS) to finish third in the team competition, earning an additional $125,000, a quarter of the $500,000 prize pool.안전놀이터

This brings his total prize pool from this tournament alone to $4.125 million.

Mito Pereira (CHILE), who took a one-shot lead into the second round, was only able to shave one stroke off his total on the day, finishing in a tie for third place at 10-under-par 206.

Instead, Pereira won the team competition.

“Major hunter” Brooks Koepka (USA), who won the PGA Championship last week, finished in a tie for 12th place at 5-under par 211.
