‘Defending champion’ Houston, starting line collapse… For Urquidi and Garcia IL

The ‘defending champion’ Houston Astros are suffering from injuries to their starting pitchers.

The Houston team announced on the 3rd (Korean time), “Luis Garcia has been placed on the 15-day disabled list (IL) with a right elbow injury.”

Garcia started against the San Francisco Giants on the 2nd, but felt discomfort in his right elbow and was replaced after only throwing 8 pitches. Garcia, who underwent an overhaul afterward, was forced to drop out of his power due to poor elbow condition.

Houston has lost two starting pitchers. Earlier on the 2nd, Jose Urquidi was also placed on the injured list due to right shoulder pain.안전놀이터

Urquidi and Garcia won 13 victories and 15 victories, respectively, last year and played a significant role in Houston’s World Series victory. It has slowed down a bit this season, but Urquidi recorded an average ERA of 5.20 with 2 wins and 2 losses, and Garcia recorded an ERA of 4.00 with an average of 2 wins and 2 losses.

Some view the injuries of the two starting pitchers as the aftereffects of participating in the World Baseball Classic (WBC). Urquidi represented Mexico and Garcia represented Venezuela. In response, coach Dusty Baker said, “I hope the WBC appearance is not the cause of the problem.”

Houston has been plagued with injuries this season. Jose Altuve is out for the season with a broken right thumb during the WBC fight, and Michael Brantley and Chas McCormick are also out of power.
