‘Breathless’ PGA Championship winner Koepka tied for 28th on first day of LIV’s seventh tournament

Brooks Koepka (USA), who became the first player to win a major championship while playing in the Saudi Arabia-funded LIV Golf League, finished in a tie for second place on the first day of back-to-back LIV events.

Koepka traded two birdies for two bogeys to finish tied for 28th with an even-par 72 after the first round of the LIV Golf League’s seventh event of the 2023 season ($25 million purse) at Trump National Golf Club (par-72) in Sterling, Virginia, USA, on Sunday.

Koepka entered the tournament on the heels of his top finish at the PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester, N.Y., through Aug. 22.

Koepka won the PGA Championship by two strokes over Viktor Hovland (NOR) and Scotty Schauffler (USA) to claim his fifth major title and become the first LIV player to win a major.

Koepka has two previous victories in the LIV League, the seventh event of the 2022 season last October and the third event of the 2023 season this April.안전놀이터

Harold Varner III (USA) was the day’s solo leader with an 8-under-par round that included two eagles. Varner III, who has one win on the European Tour, will be looking for his first victory in the LIV League.

Kevin Na (USA) is tied for third (4-under 68) with Cameron Smith (AUS), while Danny Lee (NZL) ended day one in a tie for seventh (3-under 69) with Dustin Johnson and Patrick Reed (USA).

Bryson DeChambeau (USA) and Sergio Garcia (Spain) are tied for 15th (2-under 70), Phil Michaelson (USA) is 44th (2-over 74) and Sihwan Kim (USA) is 45th (4-over 76).
