The tryout for the 2025 KBO Rookie Draft is just around the corner. The tryout will take place at LG Champions Park in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province on Wednesday. The candidates are amateur and professional players from overseas, and players who dropped out after registering as high school and college players.

This year, a total of 16 players will display their skills and capabilities to stand out among team scouts. Six players from American high schools and universities are included in the list. Two players who have no registration history as players of the Korea Baseball Softball Association (KBSA) in middle and high schools are also included.

Last year, a total of five players participated in the tryout. Among them, “Mukibets” Hwang Young-mook (Hanwha Eagles) made his professional debut as he was named in the rookie draft.

In an interview with CBS No Cut News, Jin Woo-young said, “On the day of the tryout, it rained, so my ground condition was not good.” He then recalled, “But I tried to show as much as I could in that environment.”

The unique resume of being a “student in the U.S.” was an eye-catching factor for scouts. Jin played in the U.S. Minor League from 2019 to 2021, and posted a career-high 9-5 record with a 3.61 ERA in 32 games.

Jin Woo-young said, “Since returning from the U.S., I’ve been running only after seeing the tryout day,” adding that he was desperate at the time. He added, “I made up my mind to show everything I could show without regret so that those times would not be in vain.”

The tryout was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Jin. At the time, he sprayed 30 balls in a pitching test, appealing his potential pitching capability. “I think the splitter, which is the most obvious strength, was a big appeal,” Jin said. “I also liked his physical ability compared to other high school and college graduates.”

The team highly evaluated Jin’s potential for growth. It called Jin’s name as 38th overall in the fourth round of the 2024 KBO rookie draft. Jin worked tirelessly to make his professional debut. An LG official called him “a very polite and sincere player.”

He has finally taken the mound as a professional player of his dreams. Jin played his first professional game against the Kia Tigers on April 9. Since then, he has pitched seven ⅔ innings in six games this season, with a 4.70 ERA without losing or losing.

“Thankfully, I made my professional debut and I am gaining experience in the first team,” Jin said. “I definitely feel that the wall of the first team is very high. I am realizing that my baseball life is starting again in the professional league and that I have to compete and research endlessly.”

As a tryout senior, he advised players not to be nervous this year. “I didn’t know the atmosphere as I experienced it for the first time. However, it was very helpful for me because (Han) Sun-tae, who experienced the tryout, gave me advice in advance,” Jin said.

“The participating players will experience more big things as they play baseball in the future,” he said. “So don’t be too nervous to show them well.” He encouraged, “If you show everything you have made while working out, you will have good results.”
