Veteran outfielder Lee Yong-kyu effectively ended the 2024 season due to a broken toe.
A Kiwoom official said on the 8th, “Lee Yong-kyu was diagnosed with a broken right third toe during a hospital examination,” adding, “It is unclear whether he will play for the rest of this season.”
In the third inning of the game against SSG Landers on Sunday, Lee was hit on the foot by a pitch thrown by opponent team starter Drew Anderson. He complained of pain before heading to the first base, and continued running on base until the follow-up hitter Lee Ju-hyung got a walk. However, Lee couldn’t bear the pain, and was replaced by pinch runner Kim Soo-hwan.메이저놀이터
Lee displayed impressive performance with a batting average of 0.306 in 60 games this season. Notably, he filled the vacancy of foreign batter Ronnie Dawson, who was injured with a batting average of 0.367 in the last 10 games.
Kiwoom suffered a big blow to its power as Lee Yong-kyu also escaped.
Prior to this, Dawson was out for the season after being diagnosed with partial damage to his right anterior cruciate ligament after colliding with Lee during a match on March 31. Dawson is scheduled to depart for the U.S. on September 9.
