Hanwha Eagles right-hander Park Sang-won recorded one win and six holds and one save with an earned run average of 0.00 in 14 games in August. He displayed the best performance among the Hanwha bullpen pitchers, contributing the most to raising hope for fall baseball. Since July, he has allowed no runs in 18 consecutive games.메이저놀이터
Until mid-July, Park’s pitching pace was not very good. He marked an ERA of 5.11 for the month of July, repeating his ups and downs. He still boasted strong ball power by throwing fastballs close to 150 kilometers per hour, but often allowed rough hits at disadvantageous ball count due to his shaky ball control.
However, Park has transformed into a completely different pitcher since August. By banking on his unique pitching, he enhanced his strikeout ability, displaying overwhelming performance against batters. In 14 games in August, Park made a whopping 19 strikeouts. During the period, he allowed only four walks.
The guidance of Yang Sang-moon, a veteran pitching coach, played a big role in making use of Park’s strengths. Yang said, “Park Sang-won is a good pitcher with good pitching power in the first place. But when he starts to shake, he tends to throw the ball harder and collapse. So he kept saying to himself, ‘Let’s relax and stick to the basics.’
Thanks to Yang’s coaching, Park has significantly lowered his ERA in this season through his performance in August. In the beginning of July, Park’s ERA reached 8.65, but he has recorded two wins, three losses, 11 holds, two saves and an ERA of 4.92 in 53 games (53 innings) so far this season. His ERA in the second half stands at a whopping 1.33.
Hanwha, which had continued its hope for fall baseball, recently lost its momentum by winning two consecutive games. However, hope is not gone yet. The team will start building more wins against the Doosan Bears in Daejeon from Thursday.
Park Sang-won, who performed very well in August, will also take the mound again after getting enough rest. His goal is to continue the current fever in September, as he shows his best performance.
