Are Baseball Players Allergic to Gloves? Possibility of chemical reactions with tattoo ink

It was belatedly known that an American baseball player had an allergic reaction to baseball gloves.

New Jersey Advance Media reported on the 16th (local time) that Alex Verdugo (28), a New York Yankees outfielder in the Major League Baseball (MBL), had an allergic reaction after wearing his batting glove. Verdugo has been found to have played with allergies since 2021.스포츠토토

Verdugo said in an interview with the media, “Since 2021, wearing gloves has blistered and scabbed my hands,” adding, “My skin has become dry and I have been hitting with pain.”

It wasn’t until the Yankees medical team sent him to an allergist that they knew the problem was his gloves. Chromate and cobalt, two chemicals in the glove, caused the allergy.

Verdugo wears Franklin gloves. “This is a problem that has never been found, so we will find a solution soon,” said John Ballas, senior baseball director at the company. The management plans to find a way to make the gloves without the use of two chemicals.

Arthur Rubitz, an allergist, pointed out that tattoos on Verdugo’s body are the cause. Metal particles in tattoo ink react with chemicals to cause allergies.

Verdugo is a freshman who moved to the Yankees this season. He only has a batting average of 0.230. He had a batting average of 0.281 for seven seasons before his transfer. He had a batting average of 0.289 and 0.280, respectively, in 2021 and the year after his allergic reactions began. This is why his poor performance cannot be attributed to allergies. “As expected, I cannot say that Verdugo was not in a good condition due to his hands,” he said. “However, my pain is not light.”

Verdugo will undergo injection treatment before getting a new pair of gloves with no allergic reactions.
